What's New?
The new model year brings with it some vital updates to the Ioniq 5 design. The exterior now has updated front and rear bumpers, a larger rear spoiler, and a rear windshield wiper. Also, a new trim called the N-Line is available, and with it comes 20-inch wheels, a side skirt, and updated interior enhancements.
The new interior enhancements include repositioning the wireless smartphone charger and convenient button placement for the heated seats and steering wheel. Also, the infotainment system has been upgraded, and there are new safety features like lane-keeping assist and a side-impact collision avoidance feature.
Finally, the Ioniq 5's powertrain has been enhanced. Now, the model's largest battery has increased from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh and offers better range.
Performance
Thenew Ioniq 5 is powered by two battery options there's a 58-kWh battery and a new 84. kWh battery. In the standard range, the battery is paired with a single, rear-mounted electric motor and generates 168 horsepower. Meanwhile, the longer-range battery, with the rear-drive configuration, generates 225 horsepower. Though with all-wheel drive, the Inoiq 5 can produce 320 hp.
Charging & Range
According to the EPA, Ioniq 5 models that have the standard 58.0-kWh battery pack will generate about 220 miles of range. The new 84.0-kWh pack is said to get around 325 miles with a single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain. Though these numbers aren't final.
As for charging the Ioniq 5, Hyundai says that the new battery can go from 10 to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger. As for charging at home, no word has come out about those numbers.
Design
The new updated Ioniq 5 may have received some changes, but it still looks as futuristic as it ever was. All the new tweaks just make it look even more unique. As for the interior, this too is futuristic, especially with its head-up display with augmented reality that can project navigation directions.
It that wasn't enough, the new Ioniq 5 also has an increased cargo and passenger space thanks to its completely flat floor. Because of this, Hyundai has given the front seats a reclining function with footrests for ultimate relaxation.
Additionally, the cargo space now holds around six bags when the rear seats are upright and around 20 bags when the seats are folded.
Technology
With such a futuristic design, it only makes sense that Hyundai also gives the Ioniq 5 a plethora of innovative infotainment and connectivity features. These include a 12.0-inch digital gauge a 12-inch touch screen with voice recognition, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
Safety
Every Ioniq 5 is loaded with a bevy of standard advanced driver-aids such as automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. In higher trims, drivers will find more advanced features such as an automated parking system, a 360-degree camera system, and a blind-spot camera.
